Care Guide

Nothing here is finished with lacquer. Oil and wax only, so a surface can be repaired rather than replaced.

Oiled timber

Wipe spills as they happen β€” water left standing will raise the grain. Re-oil once a year: ten minutes with a cloth, and the surface is protected for another twelve months. Keep a top away from a working fireplace or a ducted vent, which will dry it unevenly.

Wool and bouclΓ©

Vacuum with the upholstery head every few weeks. Blot a spill, never rub. Wool resists dirt and springs back on its own; most marks lift with a damp cloth and time.

Linen

Linen creases, and it is meant to. Covers that come off can be washed cold and air dried. Expect it to soften over the first year rather than wear out.

What movement looks like

Solid timber takes on moisture in a wet winter and gives it back in a dry summer. A wide top may show a hairline gap at a breadboard end in February and close it by August. That is the timber breathing, not a fault.
